JFE
Chemical, a division of the JFE Group, was established specifically to meet the
evolving needs of the coal chemical and magnetic material businesses. In particular,
our commitment to innovation in technology and products has successively developed
materials for display panels, batteries and electronic components, which comprise
the backbone of todays IT industry.
For faster product development, JFE Chemical has established Chemical Research Laboratory adjacent to Chiba Plant of East Japan Works. We are continuously striving to meet the needs of individual products. |

Condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
contained in coal tar determine material functionalities such as heat resistance
and optical properties. Selection of chemical conformation improves heat resistance
and chemical modification technologies add luminescence and optical functions
such as high refraction index and low double refraction index.
Using these technologies, we have proposed improved resin materials with specific
properties using indene and fluorene. |

| Mesophase sphere (mesocarbon microbeads),
a coal tar pitch product manufactured only by JFE Chemical, has achieved the highest
battery capacity worldwide as a negative electrodes of rechargeable lithium ion
battery. This mesophase sphere is also highly expected to function as filler for
the resin separator of fuel batteries. Chemical Research Laboratory is engaged in research and development of such battery materials and composite resin materials for automotive applications. |

Chemical Research Laboratory is engaged in development of high purity iron oxide materials, iron oxide nanoparticles and iron dust from crude iron oxide, the by-product of manufacturing steel. Magnetic Materials Division also develops high performance ferrite cores with high magnetic permeability, low losses, high frequency, and excellent thermal properties to meet a wide variety of demands for electronic products.
